Coaches' Bios

Assistant Coach Kevin Griffith’s background is one that originally started as a football athlete. Coach Kevin played football and achieved 3 consecutive high school Championships as a stellar All-City running back. Due to knee injuries he was unable to play collegiately but returned to the gridiron and played running back for the Semi Pro team Broward Outlaws for 2 seasons. 

In 2004, his coaching softball career began as he coached several teams (Miramar Mystique 12u and Coral Springs Panthers 14u). He then became an assistant coach for the West Boca Diamond’s 8u team for 1 year. In 2010, after several years of learning the game he co-founded the Deerfield Beach Sharks 10u team, where he helped develop a very competitive 10u, 12u and 14u team. During his time with the Sharks, accomplishments included an NSA “A" State Championship, USSSA “A" State Championship and USSSA World Series championship. In their first season, the team amassed an 89-6 record. Overall the Sharks were holders of 245 wins/53 losses and an .822 win percentage. Coach Kevin was also an assistant coach for the Piper High School Bengals softball team 2009-2010 season, where they recorded a winning season. 

Coach Kevin joined the Gold Coast Hurricanes in 2015 and currently coaches first base. He believes in building a strong sense of teamwork, dedication and work ethics. 

Coach Manny Devesa has been coaching for the past 35 years. His first 20 years he coached baseball, from little league to high school. During that time he won numerous sectional, regional and state championships. Coach Devesa has been coaching softball for the past 15 years. His teams have won the ISA Nationals in 2005, USSSA Nationals in 2007, and multiple USSSA and NSA State Championships. His team was 12U USSSA National Runner-up in 2010 and 14U Pony National Runner-up in 2011. His 2012 14U team finished 7th at ASA Nationals as well as being ASA State Champions and Gold Star Elite Champions that same year. 
Coach Devesa joined the Gold Coast Hurricanes in 2014 and is well known in the softball community, for developing athletes throughout the years.

Coach Devesa currently has former players playing at Upstate SC, UVA, FGCU, Columbia, USF, Georgia Tech, Eckerd, NSU, Lynn, Boston College, Agnes Scott College and MDCC.

Coach Devesa is currently the Head Coach for the Pines Charter Lady Jaguars Junior Varsity, and an Assistant Coach for the Varsity. Coach Devesa had a career playing baseball for Miami Dade Community College and for St. Thomas University. He is a career Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Key Biscayne for the past 23 years. 

Assistant Coach/Strength & Conditioning Coach K.J. Frazier’s background found him transitioning from playing collegiate football for the Hofstra University Pride (formerly Flying Dutchmen) under Coach Joe Gardi to being introduced to coaching fastpitch softball in the late 90’s, during the career of his oldest daughter.  Prior to joining Gold Coast in 2015 Coach K.J. served as Co-head coach on several Miami Stingray teams, 8U – 12U, as well as branching out and creating the Miami based Gators Elite 14U team which finished 2nd in the 2014 USFA Nationals in Panama City Beach, FL as well as a top 5 finish in the 2015 TCS Nationals in Georgia. Coach K.J.’s primary focus with the Hurricane – Devesa 14U group is the strength and conditioning for the team along with defensive technique and strategy.
